The Impossible star, who won last year’s series beating Jahmene Douglas to the top spot, admitted feeling envious after becoming so close with the ex-Pussycat Doll last year:
"I felt jealous watching the first show of the new X Factor series seeing Nicole complimenting other people – it’s weird. That’s my mentor. We got really close," he told the Daily Star.
He added: "She’s such a nice person - really cool for someone so successful."
The singer, whose new song, You’re Nobody Until Somebody Loves You is released on October 20, did however have some compliments for newly returned X Factor judge, Sharon Osbourne.
"I love Sharon. She adds so much to that programme, I think she’s fantastic. She cracks me up. I used to watch The Osbournes and I’ve loved her since those days."
The singer also spoke out to the Metro about coping with depression after winning the show and feeling lost, in his own words recalling, “What the hell happened?”
"After winning the show I felt very lost, I thought 'who am I meant to be now? Who do people want me to be?'"
"I did have a Susan Boyle thing to be honest; I defy anyone whose life has changed that much and that dramatically not to have a meltdown at some point.”
Despite his setbacks with fame, James Arthur’s single ‘Impossible’ as expected topped number one in a number of countries and will feature on his forthcoming Naughty Boy produced album which is due for release on November 4th
