The 32-year-old X Factor judge had been on a whale watching cruise with friends when they lost sight of the boat they had been following.
Rowland told People magazine: "I remember thinking to myself, 'Lord, please don't let this boat capsize. Please let us get to shore in one safe, sound piece. I just want to see tomorrow."
At around 1.30pm that day Kelly and her pals became lost. She told the mag there was suddenly "no more shore, no more land, we're seeing no more of the buoys, no more of the boats passing by - it's just in the middle of nowhere, so we realised that we're lost."
The group eventually managed to make contact with someone on land via their cellphones and the US Coast Guard sent a towboat to escort them through "five to ten feet high" waves back to shore - more than 10 hours after the ordeal began!
