The X Factors Tamera Foster was caught shoplifting after her first audition on the show, it has been reported.
The 16-year-old is claimed by The Mirror to have been nabbed along with two other girls by security guards at Boots in Gravesend, Kent, on 24 July.
The trio are alleged to have attempted to steal make-up - and store bosses apparently opted to deal with the offence with "restorative justice".
This saw Tamera face-to-face with staff to explain why she had done it, and charges were not pressed.
And the teenager, who is on odds of 9/4 to win this year's series of the ITV talent show, apparently grovelled for forgiveness from TV bosses too.
A source said: "She is really remorseful for what she has done and has said sorry to everyone on the show for letting them down. She is distraught."
